The Disappearing Girls of the South Caucasus

Population Processes, 2020, 5(1): 3-9.
DOI: 10.13187/popul.2020.1.3CrossRef

Abstract:
Three independent states are located in the south Caucasus – Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia. The tradition is maintained even in 2021 and the cult of the boy in the family still exists. The tradition is revered not only by men, but also by women themselves. Especially in the regions, you can often hear the phrase by women uttered with pride: "I gave birth to a son for this family". For a woman, having a son psychologically means that she becomes a member of this family, that she deserves respect and honor. Since she gave birth to an heir, the husband's surname will continue. A sharp imbalance between the sexes can lead to an increasing crime rate in the country: If we will continue to think this way and will not eradicate this approach in society, the positive changes in the field of gender equality won’t happen, then the situation will remain unchanged and country will face a serious catastrophe in a decade.

Czechs in Russia: Transformation of National Minorities and Problems of their Consolidation on the Territory of the State. 1920−1950s

Population Processes, 2020, 5(1): 10-31.
DOI: 10.13187/popul.2020.1.10CrossRef

Abstract:
In the existing classification of the type of migration, studied by scientists in many countries, there is an interpretation of migrations due to forced resettlement, caused as a result of destructive influences on the part of state authorities in relation to ethnic communities or population groups in conditions of war, man-made disasters, floods, etc. In Russia, the use of such a mechanism was typical, especially during the period of the Great Russian Revolution, the Russo-Japanese War, the war of 1941−1945. Undoubtedly, these actions inflicted tangible harm on the ethnic communities involved in the maelstrom of these complex migrations. In this regard, the migration processes in the countries of Western Europe, Southeast Asia, the military-political situation in Ukraine show how urgent this problem remains in modern conditions. The study proposed by the author aimed to show how, for what reasons, these measures were taken during the 1941−1945 war with regard to ethnic minorities, what difficulties and transformations they had to overcome. The article contains many quantitative characteristics that reveal the completeness of the process, shows the resettlement of migrants, overcoming inconveniences, the consequences of the actions taken. An assessment of the measures taken is given.

Population of Montenegro (2020 and Historical) and Montenegro Population Forecast (2020–2050)

Population Processes, 2020, 5(1): 32-37.
DOI: 10.13187/popul.2020.1.32CrossRef

Abstract:
Our research indicates that a considerable differentiation of Montenegrinin territory, as well as clear divisions, have been established in the essential features of its demographic development. Therefore, in the interests of overall progress, more balanced regional development and population distribution are necessary. Population projections are an important input to policy making at the local, regional, national and world levels. They become part of policy formulation and the decision – making process, which is why the forecaster’s principal aim should be to produce the most accurate forecasts possible. This text will try to show the Population of Montenegro (2020 and historical) and the Population Forecast of Montenegro (2020–2050). In this review we will be based on data United Nations, Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Population Division (2020).
